Safety competition
Glass bottles are fragile, and most of the drinks are rich in carbon dioxide. The use of glass bottles to pack drinks brings great safety risks to the transportation and consumption of drinks.
Especially in recent years, because of the drink, especially beer burst accidents happened frequently.
Mainly because of the use of the old glass bottles due to more circulation turnover, the bottle body wear, reduced pressure capacity.
When the carbon dioxide pressure in the bottle is too high, the glass bottles often collide, and consumers open the bottle improperly, there may be consequences of explosion and injury.
Since 1998, there have been more than 6,000 cases of exploding bottles of drinks, causing many people to be injured, disabled and even killed, and involving many companies in judicial and reputation disputes.
Metal cans are significantly safer than glass bottles and usually do not explode and injure people.
In addition, broken glass bottles are not easy to clean, and broken glass bottles left in roads, fields and rivers are easy to cause serious damage to human beings, animals and traffic vehicle tires, which has become a more prominent problem in today's society.
Although beverage manufacturers have attached great importance to the elimination of potential safety hazards of glass bottled drinks, but still cannot prevent the occurrence of bottle explosion.
Shelf life competition
The basic reason why glass bottles are still the main force of beverage packaging is that they have the characteristics of good air isolation and strong heat resistance, which can meet the requirements of high sensitivity to oxygen, prevention of microbial pollution, prevention of carbon dioxide and water loss, and maintenance of flavor stability, ensuring the quality of drinks in the shelf life.
Although metal cans also have good gas barrier property, the oxygen increase of beverage packaged in soda can is much higher than that of bottled beverage, which will affect the taste of beverage after being kept for a long time.
The cost of competing
From the perspective of production, the production cost of glass bottles is 83% of that of metal cans.
Take the most obvious beer for example, a can of beer, its packaging cost is nearly 1 yuan, and the beer itself is only 6 to 7 cents.
Beer in glass bottles is only 3 to 50 cents.
From the perspective of transportation, the weight of cans is light. Compared with glass bottles of the same volume, the weight is much smaller, which greatly reduces the transportation cost of enterprises. Moreover, drinks packaged in cans are not prone to explosive bottles in the transportation process, so as to avoid unnecessary waste.
Taking Lhasa as an example, the transportation cost of 600ml glass bottles is close to 0.7 yuan, and the transportation cost of glass bottles arriving in Lhasa is nearly 1.4 yuan each, far higher than that of metal cans.
From a recycling point of view, cans and glass bottles can be recycled.
But recycling them requires cleaning, consumes a lot of water and costs a lot of money.
To sum up, we have come to the conclusion that cans and glass bottles are more in line with modern people's life rhythm and habits in terms of safety and practicality.
In terms of production cost and quality, the glass bottle is better.
However, what is more important is their handling of problems after production and use!
Both have an impact on nature during production, but overall, glass bottles are cheaper to produce and pollute more than cans.
In the post-use recycling process, can recycling is more convenient than glass bottles, and the use of more modern technology.
